The Art of Wandering Well: Keeping a Tally

Three stops on the tourist trail today…

  1. Culloden Battlefield: according to Rick Steves, it is “an evocative, haunting, and deeply powerful memorial.” We agree.
  2. Cawdor Castle and Gardens:

“All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!
All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!”

  1. Clava Cairns: ancient burial mounds circled with standing stones that align with the solstice. Another wonderfully Druidy sort of site… and, of course, inspiration for some silly Outlander fun.

Today’s wildlife tally included:
• 1 herd of Clydesdale draft horses
• 1 little lamb with gloriously floppy ears
• 1 very dark brown coo
• 1 white coo
• about 3 black coos… though one absolutely stole the show

On the advice of our innkeeper, we spent the last part of the day on a spectacular sunny beach that seemed to stretch forever, eating ice cream cones – the most UN-Scotland beach ever!

We also ate the strangest meal of the trip and ended the evening listening to live music before calling it a night.

Oh yes… we wandered today. But now I’m officially on hedgehog watch
